Dark Vane is one the best offhand but we are talking about minimal gain for way more money. Unless you can get a Dark Vane +8 I would just dual wield Shard +7's for the AP. Your best bet is getting your personal to +7 though. If you are lucky enough you won't need an upgrade for a very long time.

Thank God, nothing special about DV. I was wondering also if something is changed after my time since ppl are dying for DV recently. +3 sex appeal is nice but it just doesnt make sense to me investing 7-8 gb for DV+7 where md 8 is 380-400m.

Look, Dark Vane is a terrible dagger specially in the beggining of servers where HP and Mana matters too much and it doesn't even give resistances. Some people (specially turks) tend to like it because they see their AP increase a bit but they never bother to actually weigh in the pros and cons or to actually test the dagger throughly therefore they lack the knowledge.

People have really low poison resistance therefore your R hits will be higher with md+8 and shard +7 (also dual shard +7 depending on the amount of cash you got) and the regular skill hits diference between that and using DV on offhand won't even be noticed, not only that but with the money you save you can get items that are way more important to you and that will actually make a huge difference.

Won't mention here CHD and personal dagger because those are obviously the best option.
