Anyone here that plays guitar familiar with sweep picking? It's a pretty difficult technique but if you can get it down it sounds fucking awesome, and is fun as hell to play. Unfortunately for me, I cant do it well. So are any other players learning this?

A few examples of some cool sweeps:

lol interesting... finally somebody that knows what an arpeggio is :P , guess i should look at music forums more than ko forums :P

anyways... yea its a hard technique , can take u a lot of time to get the easiest ones , thing is go slowly and try to play them as clean as possible... i dont like to rush it and not hear it clean cause it ruins the whole technique , i can play arpeggios clean but then again ive been playing for 9 years :P

now i leave u with a video , he is one of the best if not the best shredder in the world, michael angelo batio

    sweep picking starts around 1:23

some ppl claim his music is too fast and no feeling but then again everyone has a different opinion

Damn, his picking hand is so steady that whole vid. I like his mullet. :P

But yeah, I'm still working on them, and still struggling. I can play them pretty cleanly, but not anywhere near fast enough.

hmm piano... im tempted to start learning , even tho it seems a bit complex , i wouldnt have much troubles with my left hand but the right hand would be a pain to get used to xD , but then again that would help me do some crazy tapping on the guitar... maybe i should try :P

Yeah I know a guy who can tap on the guitar and play keyboard at the same time. Makes me so jealous every time I see their band live.

When i used to teach guitar i got a lot of requests to learn this. The easiest way is just to play a simple major pattern like:

    15-12---------------------------12--15
    -------13---------------------13--------
    -----------12-------------12----------
    ---------------14-----14--------------
    -------------------15------------------

Just shift it around different position and you can move down the thirds by a semitone to make it into a minor arpeggio. Thats enough just to get the technique right.

Batio is a really funny guy, i have one of his videos somewhere. And his picking technique is unbelievable. But really he is just a walking arpeggio exercise tape. I don't think his sweep patterns are particularly complex, just fast. Better sweep pickers are Frank Gambale and Shawn Lane.
