ya, i listened to those and dont like them much :\
it doesnt release any emotions :S
too many notes, too fast. theres no melody, its just random notes
not that its bad, i mean for some1 to shred like that, its godly :|
sometimes slower is better; look at the beatles, or red hot chili peppers for example; most of their songs are made of 4 chords.
    i dunno, just my insight.

and ive played piano for 7 years, guitar 4 years and drums for 1 year :P

Tizoc was asking for song without any singer...That's why they are only "guitarist" in my list...

I disagree with "there is no melody"... Depend of video, Searching of Satriani is imo one of the best Guitar song...There is a too great melody inside... Erik Mongrain had to worked hard to to find his "air Tap" song...And what can you think of SRV,Stanley Jordan,John Butler Trio,Justin King,COB playing vivaldi(vivaldy=no melody????!)..?

The one guitarist where i understand that you think there is no melody is Michael Angelo Batio, and it's not in all his song.. Some part are very nice (like symphonic)... And a litlle Micheal Romeo from Symphony X, but Vido i putted are just "skilled" one, not the video of the band's playing on stage wich rock!

You were talking aboute Beatles or Red Hot... I agree that most of beatles song are "4-chords song".. But for Red Hot, I disagree, indeed when you listen By the way album there is a real work on melody, and not only 4 chords in a whole song.

You told too that there is "random note"... No they are not, try to play random note as fast as you can and there you'll see no Melody... IF you've played piano for 7 years you must know some basic knowledge of music, of harmony/melody and can't tell some thing like that..btw i'm playing guitar for nearly 6 year too.

i was talking about the shredding of batio.. thats the only one i listened to, so i thought all of them were like this.
he is just ascending and descending on a scale, playing notes on that scale.. it doesnt seem like he knows what he is playing; theres no melody.
and to whoever said jimi hendrix's playing isnt special :|
    shame on you..
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=LgIaLL-iP0Y
90% of beatles songs are around 4 chords, i know because i have an entire book on their songs.
chili peppers as well, starts out with 4 chords, then in the chorus it might change a little bit; but the point is its simple
and simple is better in most cases.. thats why there are so many more people that enjoying listening to their type of music.

and if you guys want to hear some REAL shredding, http://youtube.com/watch?v=9cadbYIzhqQ
none of these metal players with so much distortion can compete.

and btw, 80% of batio's playing isnt that hard, since youve played guitar for 6 years u should know that.
he's just doing trills and repeating 4 notes
only problem might be training ur right hand to do it, as you are used to ur left hand doing it.

Sory i did not understood well when i read, but even if they have "only" 4 chords, they have a fucking melody with guitar/bass player and singer as well... There is not ONLY 4 chords there is many thing with and ultimately it is the addition of all of those things that makes the music is good... Btw the topic was asking for good" guitar's instrumental and solos", we can't compare a band with singer with an alone guitar player.

and if you guys want to hear some REAL shredding, http://youtube.com/watch?v=9cadbYIzhqQ

I still prefer metal players , those guys are good, even very good, but i prefer metal solos.
But you must have a look to the other video's i posted... I think you can like some, (accoustic one, Justin king, Stairway to heaven/orion,Tommy emmanuel)

Even if he seems to do always the same thing it's hard to have the same speed on his sweep... Sweep aren't that easy if you want them to sound great... Moreover it's hard to do the "range" as fast as he does. The point is that he playes fast AND all notes are sounding, he is very "accurate"...
And I think that the problem isn't training Right hand, but LEFT hand... on sweep right hand only have to go up and down.

I really hate acoustic shredding. It just doesn't sound full enough. Every note sounds muted.

I recently started learning to sweep and I must say, that shit is tough. The right hand is much easier to get down than the left hand.

uhm, these guys are the greatest acoustic guitar players in the world. its not an opinion, its a fact.
shredding on an acoustic is MUCH harder than on an electric guitar.
also, if you look at paco's right hand, he's not using a pick. hes shredding using his fingers.
acoustic shredding is so hard, because you dont have the distortion to help you make it smooth and fast.

btw, when u said it sounds muted, well lol its meant to be muted, he was muting his solo with his palm..

and edwin, lol, i know all the songs you posted; i like them all, just i dislike metal shredding, it annoys me
i dont feel it if u know wat i mean, not my taste i guess

also, every song of the chili peppers is made of 2-3 progressions of 2-5 chords each.
if you dont believe, try to find out yourself. go youtube and search some of their songs..
i said they're made up of 4 chords; not 4 notes XD the singer sings along those chords, he doesnt sing random other chords.
    every1 follows those 4 chords.

and all im saying is that simpler music like beatles/RHCP is better than speed playing. it brings out more emotions, you can enjoy it.

I never said acoustic shredders werent talented. They're just as talented as metal shredders. I'm sure if John Petrucci played acoustic he would be able to shred like that too.
