    Default Why do people DDOS?

The reason i'm making this thread is because nearly every private server I have attempted to play in the recent months has been ddos'd to hell in back.

Whenever a new server launches, it seems like everyone who has a server currently immediately goes and ddos' that server so they don't lose any of their users.

Wouldn't it be more productive to you know, just continue updating your own server so that people don't leave it? If people are leaving your server it must mean they have gotten bored of it, or a new server caters to them more than yours.

Yet instead they choose to ddos these servers and kill any chance you can possibly have of playing on it.

Now people will say "well oh yea you should have better security" Well guess what? anyone can hack something if they put enough time into it or find a loophole.

I just think it's sad that people continue to do this. I've played multiple private servers for other games and this never happens. It's like the majority of the ko community only relies on DDOS or hacking others servers to make profit off files they didn't even make themselves (except twostars).

What is everyone's opinion on this?

Well it usually goes like this. Some kid starts playing some random server, fails, everyone out levels him,out gears him,and than he quit and starts dosing.Or u can be like Vince and dos without even playing the server.

DDoS'ing is not hacking. Mindlessly flooding a server just to clog it up isn't exploiting anything in particular, and is potentially extremely difficult (to impossible!) to deal with (depends a lot on the botnet though).

Why? Usually either just for "fun", or to well, blackmail the owner (read: fun).

I... kinda like it actually. It keeps random noobs from opening servers with their cheap VPS's. Seen a real botnet back in the days when I was hosting KI, and around 150k mirc bot while helping Leko. The rest, and prolly which happens on private servers lately are random sprut flood attacks, which is really easy to prevent unless it's being made from 500+ sources.

Some people DDoS, because of the way of some server admins policies.
