We're using HyperFilter, at least for beta, so that's Amsterdam, NL. They should scale up enough to meet any attacks (it doesn't look like much, but a few of the larger servers are using them and things are kept under control fine), but we have Incloudibly (Zurich, Switzerland) lined up for official (or even beta, if we are forced to scale beyond HyperFilter's limits -- which we shouldn't).

We'd be using Incloudibly off-the-bat for beta (as was the plan), but they're rather expensive (but so worth it!) -- and we've dragged alpha out so long that we may not be able to afford paying it out of pocket for too long.
We'll certainly be switching over to them for official though.

    Edit:
Latency wise I wouldn't be too worried regardless of where it's hosted. I've been told by several people that the server itself feels so much smoother (because of the way we handle various things), despite (them) having a ping of 350ms+ (to our dev or alpha servers -- not representative of beta), so at least on that front everything should in general feel a lot better.

You're spending 1,000$ on a PC for KO? You could play fine on a 200$ PC for KO lmao

That is true. Most games these days (unless you plan on recording and all that) you can do fine on a 500-800$ PC, and push them around medium gfx with ez.

If he just plays KO? Doesn't even need that much of an expensive one. 200-350$ for a game like KO and hes fine lmao.

I guarantee you I could build you a PC for $700 that can run this game on extreme-ultra-high-super-duper-high settings. Because this game is old as fuck.

Also i guess bump for a good server inc

Using an SSD for the system drive will help wonders. Seriously, I'd never go back to not using one.
Otherwise, aside from it being a bit overpriced, it seems fine.

Regarding KO, it's a 10 year old game so you don't really need all that much to get the most out of it that it can offer.

If you're looking for "instant load times", that's also probably not going to happen with the new clients. With the older clients (i.e. 1.298) I was loading close to instantly with my precaching setting (which also happened to break things occasionally because it loaded too fast for the game's loading process), but while it's a huge improvement with the setting on the new clients, they still fall behind a bit (I think it's the DirectX shaders 'warming up'). Even still, it's not anywhere close to the 10-15min I had to wait on my old laptop back in ROFD days when I actually "played" USKO. Also, the initial load time is always slowest (~1min, here? My HDD's not doing so great, so it's not really much of a good indicator); after that, it's consistently pretty fast.

I wouldn't stress too much over it. It's an old game, and most of the bottlenecks are in the game itself & not easily remedied with new hardware.

hate or no hate, this guy is telling you the truth. prebuilt pc's are junk.
now, if you don't believe him in building you a pc, try the other pc forums. google for example: how to build a gaming pc for 700$

DO NOT BUY PREBUILT PC, no matter how cool it looks. p.s. that cool looking "package" is probably also overpriced.

I am using a pre-built pc also and it is working smoothly so far :P. I dont get why people show so many hatred to those pcs. My friends gave me the same reaction as well when i bought this but so far no problems. I am playing a lot of quality games with high graphic specs. Though my only regret the time i bought this was, win version is 8.0. I got use to it anyways though.

What if people have the money to pay for an overpriced PC and don't want to bother building one? I wouldn't go as far as buying some of the most expensive "gaming PCs" that people seem to love. The branding makes the price go through the roof. But getting an average/good PC for ~1k and then upgrading it if necessary saves you some time.

You could build a pc 2 or 3x better than the one you just linked for that price.

But well ur money, do as you wish :P
