Is this amount of crashing normal for a KO beta?
Turns out I only stopped one means of triggering the deadlock; there were 2 (which we are/were aware of). Unfortunately, in my haste to do something about it until Aesteris returns and we finish testing the reimplemented AI logic, I forgot about the 2nd.
In theory, you'd think it previously taking 14.5 hours to trip it when there were 2 possible ways it could be tripped would mean it'd be even less likely to occur when there was only 1 left.
Unfortunately, due to its potentially random nature, the RNG gods decided that shouldn't happen... and instead, trip it far more frequently. Just because.
The problem with the 2nd means of triggering it is there's no real simple way of fixing it, without reimplementing how things work a bit (which Aesteris has already done / is testing).
I ended up doing it anyway -- to the minimum extent I felt I needed to. It was either that or have the RNG gods hate on us some more until Aesteris is done.
Really, too tired to be doing much with the server right now -- it's been a long day, but gave it (relatively) quick runthrough, seemed fine. Neglected to test one particular case (skills that affect AI logic, i.e. Provoke/Binding), which I'd ended up breaking. Couple of minutes after I'd thrown it on beta & started it back up, someone used it and that particular functionality crashed because of my changes.
That's fixed now, everything else so far seems OK. Logic wise, time will tell.
Only other things that are of any real concern are the soccer ball stuff and Oreads burning logs, but they should be fine. The second one isn't going to run, and the former looks fine [but in all likelihood won't be used either].
It's been a looooooong day.
It's the one issue (aside from the crash caused by my temp fix, briefly >_<), that we're already addressing otherwise. Just changes so much stuff that we don't want to implement it without testing it pretty extensively.
We figured since it only occurred after 14.5h of uptime, it wouldn't really be an issue. If it did happen to occur, we could just restart it, since it'd be very infrequent.
But, well, RNG gods hate us today and it's been tripping way more than I care to just ignore. So, temp fix.
The last different issue occurred uh, almost 24 hours ago now.
But to answer your question, I don't know. There's not really much of a precedent.
If you count all the various Turkish servers, sure. But at least here they're getting resolved pretty quickly; like I said, I haven't seen another issue in almost 24 hours now. It's only this one issue that (very well could, but) won't simply wait until we're done dealing with it properly.
Well I don't care as long as official goes smooth! If we have to keep it in beta for 3 months then so be it. Alot of games have 6-12 month beta (in part 1,2,3 ... closed/open etc).

I think you trust this guy too much.
My personal opinion is that Kallop should not only lose hes Moderator, but be permanent banned from the forums.
