I believe you misunderstand the intent of this project: this project is to update the old server source to support current USKO. Nothing more: as of right now there are no plans to release a server using these (that's a little far off, anyway).
When it is viable, if it's possible we'll see who's on-board with it... then.
I'm def back to KO if this serv works out
if there will be a fully fixed USKO version updated till the 19xx version, which is perfectly secured. Believe me it will have ton's and ton's of players. Including me.
So is there any progress?
Eh, I've been hacking away at it regardless @ https://github.com/twostars/snoxd-koserver
There may be one other person who will actively contribute, which may help to kickstart things. We definitely need more than just me.
I currently have no intention of running a server, but this project is aimed at OPEN development. Anyone can contribute, we can collectively ensure things work correctly/securely - or at least, that's the idea.
My point is, unlike typical servers, the code is there to be changed -- you don't need to learn assembly to patch bugs. You can fix them correctly in the source, and... with a branch for everyone to use, we can ensure everyone's running the same updated/secure code.
This is really half the reason my current focus is primarily on cleaning up the existing codebase, rather than updating/implementing systems - a lot of the work I've done myself for my emulator (at least, with older systems), so I'd prefer to encourage discovery rather than just throw in what I already know and take a huge portion of the fun/effort out of it - if the effort gets put in, the learning curve is still definitely there. Really, I want to give other developers the chance to familiarise themselves with how KO works, which I don't think works at all if I do all the 'discovery' work. So, hopefully someone will benefit from there being stuff to do - and me definitely not doing it for them (but I'm always here to help). :P
i would help if i could, but i seriously got NO time to read all the guides at the moment...
