I personally prefer subversion myself, but you're messing with the source not the released binaries right? If not, disregard everything I said.
The SVN client I use with Windows is TortoiseSVN (I used to find the AnkhSVN VS addon caused a bit of grief, but it's probably fixed now).
You'd create the SVN repo on... say, Subversion, Git & Mercurial Hosting, Project Tracking, Trac Hosting & Agile Tools (they're actually quite nice, now that assembla's gone to hell), "checkout" the repository with TortoiseSVN, then commit your current source files to it (again, via TortoiseSVN).
The fun part is that all of that can be done from Windows Explorer - right-click on your current source folder, select "TortoiseSVN -> Checkout", enter in your repo details (address, user/pass), "OK" - then you'd right-click the folder again, and "SVN Commit..." - select all the files (ignore the binaries/object files - waste of time committing those, all we care about are the source files that will ultimately generate them), enter in a message if you desire, and commit.
From then on:
- before any work you'd right-click your folder, go "SVN Update" (in case, for example, I made any changes) and
- after making changes, you'd right-click your folder, and go "SVN Commit" (as above).
Sounds a little convulated, and admittedly the AnkhSVN addon was good for cutting down on a lot of that, but it becomes habit after a while (and really isn't that much drama).
Also, if you're testing it (locally), with source, you might as well be debugging it in VS - you shouldn't need to be working with assembly at all.
