Deffence abbility on murky

Well as you probably know a spear of murky waters has club / spear deffence.
Now I heared that these did not seem to work.

Can anybody confirm this?

it works and u can try it on arena also

i think its work cause i fight in the arena with friend(with murky+7+8) and i use rappy9 and the damage i inflict to him really not the same i do to others...
