I have not played mage but i would say Iron Belt.
Assuming the myths about more int = more stun/ice are not true then 20 AC > 50 HP.

IB > GB. Unless, your mana is so low that 1 styx leaves you with less than 250mp.
But you can make up int with other accessories, and that quick 20ac is quite hard to come across anywhere else.
ac is always ac. and since dcz spells does not suck a lot of mana...i would buy ib.
Btw...you should consider the money difference between gb and ib.
Check what you can buy with the money left.
Let's say u dont have an ep...well then...u can buy gb and ep at same price of an ib...but you'll have more benefit than just buying ib.
So u see, your actual gear helps in taking the right decision too.

Glass Belt, simple reason. The Spear defense on IB has been bugged since the original KO. Never been fixed. 20 def is nothing compared to working spear def. Int to a mage is more hp pots before you have to mana pot. Keeps you in the game longer.
Before smart asses jump in here ranting their asses off regarding above comment: the Iron Belt does have spear defense, however it's only 5 rather than the 10 it's supposed to be. Not sure if it's ever been fixed with the new moradon or the chaos expansion or whatever came after, but up until rofd it was still bugged.
On Topic: Glass > Iron.

not that im questioning you guys...but how do you know the IB spear defense is bugged?
was this 100% confirmed? kinda hard to check this from testing...so i was just wondering...

depends on ur build , if you're half paper build (with low mana) i'd say glass belt, but if u're crimson build(wich gives u a decent ac) u should go for iron belt , so u'll have a great AC BASE , even tho i'd go with GB all the way being priest/mage. that's like 200-250 mana on a dcz mage , on a cz mage its like 400-500 , so its like 1 hp pot more while you're fighting/vsing.
iron belt any time unless you got low mana
for LR mage, go with the glass belt.
