It does have an application, because +1 often comes up on points of debate.
+1 vote, or +1 (inferred [+1] to equal now 2 against, and 1 for).
That side of the argument, usualy quoted, gains one.

+# is used to support and idea. By using x#, wich denotates multplication, i would be reproducing the idea, not supporting it.
