Absolutly. I broke 2x ron"s armour(mage set item) +6 to +7 with trina , lugias+6 to 7 with trina...

Again its luck. A friend of mine broke about 8 items trying to to go +7. I on the other hand in the past week have made ss+5-->ss+7, holy animor +0-->+7 and a hb +0-->+8. But i have broken a lot of items a long the way also. Btw HB +8 is the first good item that i have made to +8. I guess luck comes at different times.
