I'm pretty sure archers used to be pretty good, I used to see some that would pwn at close range aswell as far, but i haven't seen many recently... why is that? just wondering out of curiosity...

I think archers need a team. As kallop said, their ranged damage is not enough all by itself. (Btw is that kallop from diez? :P)
1 good archer is great to have in your party for when people try to run away.
Archers are worthless from close range in usko unless you got massive ap.
An archer party is still true terror though, or so I'd guess. Idk how they would work against 8-12k hp opponents.
some archer parties on anatolia but they turk ones but if you good they will add you to their friends list :0 im thinking about going archer soon but i need razor to teach me cuz hes a baba
Pretty much when razor decided to retire as archer in usko the rest of the players decided to retire all archers as a sign of respect for his massive skills.
Archers (and sins to a great extent) are just basically useless these days unless you have highly babaed gear. What good is going "critical" strike damage when every warrior, preist and their brother has 10k hp and 1500+ defense? It's like hitting a brick wall. Archers and sins should have recieved an ap buff back when krowaz was introduced. 70+ anyway. Sure, teams of archers can be deadly still, but usually at least one or two are highly babaed.

Playing as a priest for two years with only slightly above average gear, I was never afraid of a sin (even the babas) and archers were merely a nuisance with their canceling my heals....but with a good support mage, the archers rarely were able to cancel me enough to kill me.
so are archers worth it?
only if you go it with a team of archers and not solo!
ya they killed solo archer.
the only class that can reliably solo is assassin now! such balance.
