Are you trying to switch your old uniques to regular uniques ? did i understand right?

You can't compund extinguished old uniques like old rol , roc , ep , wp , pp
You can compund old uniques like old pe, eme , se etc. etc.

I was able to attempt to compound 3x old roc, but it burned (black wings) was using Dragon scale from PUS to increase chance of success. Still no dice.

Specific items were

3x Old Roc (never equipped)
5x nest
50x scrap steel
1x soft stone
1x Dragon Scale
