In Israel , you can have 100 in matriculation certificate , but its still dosent mean you will have good job ... i have 5 uncles with 100 score in matriculation certificate and they got shit works , better to learn profession ( hope i said good ) then learn to matriculation certificate .
For example i left school when i been 17 years old ( i still 17 ) but the boss of my work place prefer me then 23 years old person with matriculation certificate becuse i know the job more then him ( computers ) , i fix do format and all this shit and actually good money till the army.
Also , im not talking about my work and about other studies , just 1 thing , everything in the life is luck , or favoritism , if you have 1 of that , you will succeed , no matter if you dumb or not ( if you dumb , you will failed in someway , when you have money and you dont know what to do with it , you prolly do illegal things > jail ) , and this is the problem.
So Lutz you're right about the game thing , its not worth it , but well some of us kids and we play for fun , i wont stay in home after Army and play ko , but i wont stop also ( if this game gonne be more 3 years ... ) ill play after work , weekend or when i have time.

Sorry for bad English , as i said i dont have matriculation certificate :P but still i passed the test in English so dont blame me , blame the teachers ^^

Lutz,

It seems like you substituted an obsession with KO for an obsession with oversucceeding in school. A 3.5 GPA as a Freshman is fine, perhaps you have very high standards which can good, but not always. You said you did so many extracurricular activities. Doing anything in extremes is very dangerous. The point about playing too much KO is very important, but it extends to doing too much of anything. People need balance. Too much school and studying also does not create a well balanced person. Many people are extremely successful in school and never do anything once they are done. Many people also sucked at school and still have found a way to be extremely successful. KO, like everything else, can be very dangerous when you allow it to consume you. Even too much water can be harmful. Just my thoughts, can't blame KO but instead personal traits that cause people to be consumed by one thing or another and can't find a healthy balance.

in uk its hard for uni grad's to get a job cos their all saying that you need experience, a peice of paper doesnt mean much :X[/b]
I've had one or two people from uni tell me that - I also felt I was wasting my time there, so I have left it (for now at least) and I now work at a web design company doing web programming and graphic design (which I've always liked ^^).

I guess I got lucky working for this place - but I've learnt more in the 6+ months I've been there than I have the entire time at uni

Your rejection to stanford doesnt mean anything dude... It is not the university in which you are
who is going to prepare you, its your willingness as a student to prevail...
And, after all, the grades doesnt mean anything, it is the knowledge you gain in it...
and how youre gonna use it ... gl dude

Maybe you got rejected from stanford because you weren't good enough? Just a thought. I applied for cambridge since i was predicted straight A's but got rejected, it was before i even started gaming so I had no excuses. Sometimes you have to stop trying to blame other things and accept you weren't good enough. And besides, Stanford is just a name to impress people. There are loads of other good places that specialise in certain fields so getting one rejection isn't the end of the world. I know that i got hung up on being rejected at the time, because I really wanted to be in the "elite" crowd but if anything it was a blessing in disguise since Nottingham was such a good place to come to instead. And a lot of the top universities only accept candidates who have exceptional extra curricular activities; for instance doing volunteer work and expeditions to the Andes, on top of having straight A's. They aren't impressed with someone who can play guitar very loud.
