ok for about the past month my pc has been acting up and now its really starting to piss me off and i can't do anything about it. i'm about ready to just pick it up and huck it out the window. Only problem is i wouldn't be able to afford another one. Even opening up applications like word takes 5 mins. and typing on it is slow and laggy. i can barely even function on this thing. So here are my questions:

    1) my comp has been really really slow and laggy just opening up applications. Is there anything i can do to make my pc run faster with less lag?

    2) i've tried countless time to re-format my pc but whenever i put in my xp disc my D: drive doesn't read it. Any help on how to fix this problem would be appreciated.

I dont really get it, so u DID format ur PC, but unable to install XP or what? Coz after normal defination "re-format" means ur system drive (C should be empty, but then again u said ur drive couldnt read ur XP disc, so what computer are u using now?

But in any case, for ur issue, I would first try reinstall everything and see if it helps. However, there are other possibilities thats causing a slow application start, but for that I need to know a couple things. Is word the only application that have a hard time starting up, or everything? (including Windows). If thats the case, then it COULD also be ur harddrive, or harddrive controller thats about do die. If its ur harddrive controller thats about to die, then try switch it to secondary master, see if it helps (usually only 1 channel gives trouble at a time). But if its ur harddrive, then u better buy another one. Again, to know whats wrong u have to be more specific about ur problem, by telling us how many applications having this issue will tell us if its a software or hardware issue.

PS: What kind of CD drive are u using? 8X CD-ROM? lol.. I can hardly believe any nowadays CD-ROM cant read a disc like XP.. are u using a copy of XP or something?

U could at least mention ur hardware but well ... make sure u have installed all neccesary drivers such as Mainboard and graphic card and so on.

If u havent re-installed Windows for some time and your memory is full of craps .... download program called Tune-Up, run it and do everything it offers to you. This helped me a lot to clear my C: drive, registers and some weird procceses.

    To Follow Up From This.

    Trying Posting Your Computer Spec's.

    Finding Computer Spec’s

Start > Run > Dxdiag > And Run The Direct X Tests And Tell Us If There Working Perfectly Okay.

This will determine each piece of hardware you have in your computer, copy and paste what it says. As it could simply be outdated driver / Wrong driver install or other issues.

Also when i say reformat (sorry it wasn't correct term that's what i was told it was) i meant that i was going to reinstall Windows XP on my comp and start over. Its a legal disk with the code and everything the only problem is my drive won't read it. And its with any application i try to use like publisher, word, xcell, solitare, WMP, ect.

here's some other stuff if it helps

Memory is going to be a big problem you should atleast now adays have 1 gig also ur bios is old you should get a update also when is the last time ur cleand out ur old temp files/cookies alot of times there is just to much crap on peoples computer that they dont use my reccomendation

gets another stick of 512 ram or even a gig <-- this will help a lot

clean out ur cookies all ur temp files right click on ur c drive and go to prop.. then disc clean up and there are old files there all that crap you never take out is still there then get a spyware cleaner i honestly reccomed spybot search and destroy its good + its free and they have a good registry cleaner
    defragment ur computer

then go and UPDATE ur computer i see that there are drivers from 2004 i am sure that they have new ones that sony should read the xp disc could be a bad cd rom if thats the case you can get them now for like 25$
