Default Buying a new computer (Help)

Okay, I'm going to buy a new PC because my old one broke.
My pain threshold is at 1100.- CHF not $! (Note: All the prices below are in CHF, too)

I just need your help. There are so many reviews and comparisons. Once Intel is better, once AMD is better. Once it's a big difference, once it's a small difference. Then again those comparisons are nutts, as they mix up AMD components with Nvidia GCards and so on. Then there's also that Intel harmonises very good with Nvidia and AMD very good with ATI. Also SMT, Hyper Threading, is being rated so high but looking at comparisons Hyper Threading is more a bracket than anything else or gives only a very small advantage.
Your opinions and suggestions about my ideal components are welcome.

    Expectations:
    - high fps when I play ko while frapsing
    - un/packing WinRar
    - video rendering and editing
    - high fps when playing new games at high quality settings (like bioshock, crysis warhead, hawx, far cry 2, etc.)

    - Computer should last for about 2 years minimum
    - I might buy a second memory kit (2x2GB) and upgrade my OS to 64bit

    No need for:
    - SLI/CFX
    - OC

At your budget I would go with Intel. If you were spending less, then I would say AMD.

Get the "Intel V2" system. If you don't mind spending a bit more, get a 295 instead of the 275.

Don't overlook getting a good hard drive. If you're still using a standard $80 desktop drive, that's going to be your bottleneck. Look at the Intel Intel X25-M or WD Velicoraptor.

For power supply, I suggest PC Power and Cooling. I've had the best luck with those. You need at least 550W with that video card. Look at Corsair if you can't find PC Power and Cooling.
