microphone problems hope smeone can help!

well my microphone worked on my computer before i moved rooms altho i had to fiddle with some settings first
im now in my new room and my microphone is plugged back in, cant remember if i plugged it in to my black/pink or onboard socket
i currently have a soung blaster audigy installed

basicly when im on ventrilo my microphone wont pick up any sound from my microphone,but when people sign in msn or pm me on msn or people connect to ventrilo my mic activates on vent!
