I'm upgrading my PC, and stuck on what graphics card to get for it. Call of Duty 4, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008, NBA Live08 and Knight Online are the only games i play, so don't need a high end graphics card, plus my budget is around $300AU.

Atm i have this card in mind LEADTEK 8800GT 512MB PCI-E for $320AU.

Is that good value, or do i need that much power. Should i go 8600GT ??

i'd get an evga 8800gt, coz if you burn it overclocking it, they will still replace it

this is what i just got (arrived today)
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814500006

i paid 280 for it (including shipping, etc), core clock at 700 mhz
but you can buy a normal 1 (600mhz clock) for around 220$
tbh if i could, i would return the one i bought and get the cheaper one, but its non refundable (p-_-)p

edit: to answer your question about the LEADTEK, 284$ (usd after conversion) its kinda high

if your looking for a graphics card just to play ko, i have a 7600gt 256 ram right now, and i can run around server1 moradon at peak turk time with no lag...

also heres usd to au conversion calculator

just bought 2 to SLI in my new rig, they run flawlessly. Does require some major parts tho if u do get 2 :P

but getting one will suffice most definitely.

depending on how u have them clocked. i got mine stable at 675mhz being air-cooled. but yes a stock gts ssc 640mb is right about equal with the new 512mb g92s, but the g92s are cheaper, just depends on what u like and what u want.

i got the 8600 GT and i must say it works fine for the game i play (CSS, the witcher, KO, etc.) but ofcourse if you can afford the 8800 i would go for it.

I think this page answer ur question: http://www.tomshardware.com/2008/01/03/the...ie_card_for_290

For those who are lazy to click the link and read the relevant stuff:

    Best PCI-E Card For ~$290

    GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB

    Codename : G92
    Process : 65nm
    Universal Shaders : 112
    Texture Units : 56
    ROPs : 16
    Memory Bus : 256-bit
    Core Speed MHz : 600
    Memory Speed MHz : 900 (1800 effective)
    DirectX / Shader Model : DX 10 / SM 4.0

The 8800 GT offers incredible Geforce 8800 GTX-class performance at almost half the price. It beats the Radeon 3870 by a notable margin, but it does tend to be a bit more expensive when available. That said, if you have $300 to spend on a graphics card, you can't do better than a nice 8800 GT.
