Help:Building a PC from Scratch

Finally getting back into KO after a long wait. All I have is a laptop and it aint going to cut it. I always wanted to build my own PC. I have a guy which will put the whole thing together and install everything. I just need to buy the parts for him. I have no clue where to start.

Can anyone guide me in the right direction to buy parts? With a budget of 500$ what am I looking at? Would it be better just to buy one made?

I never knew that their is a AMD build and a Intel build, so I assume when building a computer the components focus around the processor?

I havent decided what processor , im on a budget so im leaning towards the AMD side because its cheaper.

The intel one would give you a bit more juice, but if you're only planning on playing KO and doing some other non heavy gameing or video/picture prossessing both would be fine.

If you could send me a website that has a good overview of computers I can make you, atleast one close to the price you've set for it.

I gave it a shot, and i came up with the sum of 566.93usd, well its with out a additional cpu fan (I would get this if you could).

I will give it another shot in a few hours but so far this is what I came up with.

I will try with dual core, and try to get a cheaper setup, btw do you have any computer parts from a older comp? like a Motherboard (p5q or w/e its called) well a hard disk could cheapen things up, an midtower would to.

found all at newwgg.com. im not living in the us, so i couldnt put all the parts i wanted to in that list.with some research, im sure you can find better components at cheaper prices.
try to change that psu to something a bit more powerful
also you can trade a dvd from ur old computer to ur new 1 and if your current hdd is a 7200rpm and your happy with his storage capacity you can do the same and save few bucks.

Thanks alot guys, I raised my budget to 600$ - 650$. I have no parts, I can go to my local recycling dump they have old computers people drop off, but these are OLD, I guess I can use the tower casing on them.

Also the computer needs to have wifi, and all I need is 500GB of harddrive, thats more then enough.

I tried building a better computer then the one you listed for a lil less and I came up with this: (if you pm me with you e-mail I'll send u a cleaner looking form.
It came out 47.90 usd over your budget, and some thing i just figured out when I was done is that I could probably have gotten a package deal on the cpu and MB. PS I did this in 10 min b4 I had to go to get a my haircut, so I will try again later

Windows 7 isnt free? lol really no need to pay for it, windows loader by daz and microsoft wont annoy you at all.

im liking that computer setup, and it will be cheaper because I have "windows 7 ultimate" already so that will be -100$ on the cost. The 8GB of ram and a 6 core processor that should be more then enough. Also does a PSU take a big factor in the computers overall performance.

And for the processor how much more would it cost to get more then 2.8GHz like a 3.0 or 3.2 GHZ, also would this make a big difference?

1. a good psu can deliver from 80 to 90 % of his labeled power, some others cant pull to 50%, so its depends. a good 600w+ is more than enough for u(just make sure its branded and have good reviews).
2. 2x2gb = total of 4 gb ram, also enough.
3. overclocking Phenom II X6 to 3.2ghz is really easy, specially with that mb ASUS M4A87TD, just make sure you have a good fan for the cpu , or get AMD Phenom II X6 1100T that come with standart 3.2 ghz, but you wont fell a big difference.

Also I dident included tower cause I havent decided yet, so thats around 70$, and I havent decided any type of memory, but im looking to get 500GB Harddrive, im not sure which one, i guess it will be around 100$ for a decent one.
