Been lagging lately

hey guys, recently i've been lagging a lot. wars have been almost pointless to go to. I'm really not sure what i need. Perhaps a better processor or graphics card?

I really don't know much about how computers work though. Also money is tight so what would be the most cost-effective solution?

Edit: I'm also planning on buying a laptop for college soon. Any recommendations?

Can hardly help you if we don't know your specs from begin with or in what areas you'll be using your computer in games, video rendering, picture/text editing, etc?!

Check your FPS , to do that in game you click on the little boy/girl (idk wtf it is) on the bottom right hand corner, click graphics options after that and you should see a number that changes every second. Post what that number ranges from while you play, if its below 25 then yea you should be lagging during wars.

I have a Compaq presario running windows exp. The processor is pentium 4 and the graphics card is whatever came with the computer. At the moment, I'm only concerned with how the games are running.

It ranges from 17-18 :S lol
