If I was using an internet connection somewhere (work) and was looking up some stuff online (forums/games/ect) on my own little laptop. Is it possible for the people paying for the connection to know what sites that I am visiting through the ISP, what games that i'm connecting too (battle.net) or any passwords for important stuff?

From what id understand, they couldn't see what you were going on,

But they will know that you are using the internet because Routers will assign a computer an Internal IP Address
Its similar for a Network Hub aswell.

If you were Using Bittorrents (At work, yeah its abit stupid) but they could see Port Numbers which were accessed although
Most Work/Unversities and other orgainisation tend to block these ports for programs such as these

As for passwords and important stuff?

The answear would be no, because its Your Laptop Cookies are left on your laptop, and the server you connected/connecting too.

all your data is send through their hardware.

so yes, they CAN monitor everything. you should read your contract. there should be a separate part about the use of their internet connection and the things they monitor. it's not because they can that they do, mostly because of the laws concerning privacy. chances are great that they do monitor tho, it's their network.

Its used for Fax and stuff in the plant and the two guys working there only go to the plant a couple times each week, the internet is mostly used by us security guards and we have a 3 megabit connection. :P
For whoever wants to try and correct me with 'megabit', a megabit is 1/8 of a megabyte.
I have an unlimited 1.5mb/s connection at home.

I may get the Rogers 7mb/s connection after I have my own place, still saving up!

I just hope i'm safe from my gaming and the few nights of stumbling into porn sites/pics from links during the past couple months!

Btw, anyone know of an ISP that I can get in Canada NB with an unlimited 5+ connection? Roguers/Bell/Telus all have 100gb limited connections where I pay for every gb after the limit and Aliant cannot offer me anything higher in my area.

With Rogers, you only pay per extra GB of bandwidth up to $25

I have their 18mb connection line, it comes with 95 gb/month bandwidth and we consume that bandwidth in the first week of every month, but we're only charged an extra $25/m on our bill for using like 400-500gb probably

praise your 100GB limit, i'm limited to 30 a month with a cost of €10/10GB (no limits, the more you use, the more you pay)
