In our house we got 3 comps and 5 brothers that share them. We all play differnt games. Today i did a random scan to 1 of the computers since my security system(norton) is outdated and i havnt done 1 in a long time. It said it detected 19 items that i need to worry about. All of them ore either called infostealer and 1 trojan horse.
None of our accounts or anything have been hacked but does any1 know a way where i can get a good free security system to remove these files without going out and purchasing a new security system?

Norton makes up viruses so you dont remove it from your computer thinking it's being useful h34r:

Get NOD32 trial version, after the trial runs out either buy it or find a page that gives updated keys daily, which you have to enter each day to continue getting updates.
of course before getting nod32, reformat your computer and make sure that you only back up things that you know 100% cannot have a virus in them or you will just get the virus again on format.

i suggest this: it's free and works well at getting rid of all sorts of problems http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html. you will still need to get a virus scanner to actively block any problem though. spybot works great as a secondary program.

AVG isn't a bad v.s. for free but not my first choice. i still reccommend that you get a paid v.s but the only problem i see with most of the v.s. you need to pay for is that they are designed for comps with dual core proccessors so if you happen to be running a P4 or older your computer slows down to a crawl.

some virus scanners pick up xtrap as a trojan

up until like aweek ago i was fine, then they released a new patch, now i need to disable my mcafee just to get past the xtrap update (otherwise mcafee will quarantine xtrap)

send mcafee a customer support message about it. i had it happen to me with bitdefender about 3 months ago so i e-mailed them explaining that it was a false positive. they asked for a copy of the files in question and about a day later they replied back that the problem was fixed with the latest update. Took about 2-3 days for them to fix it in all so it's worth a try.
