Monitor help

Hey guys I have a Dell inspiron 9200. The screen is busted on it so I keep it hooked up to monitor, but when I try to watch any kind of video it will not show up on the monitor. Does anybody know why? I tried downloading another media player but it does the same thing. I can see the video is working on the busted laptop screen(on the portions I can see) but not the monitor... I can't view dvds either. No video what so ever. anyone?

Well since i didnt catch you on vent or msn ill post here.

First thing you want to do is try displaying your windows only on one screen. Press your FN+f8(crt/lcd)

if that doesnt work ill catch you on vent and help you out some more.
