Default Vegas "Stream attributes could not be determined"

well... i dont quite know why this happens.... but heres the back story.

I was gettin ready to go to college. i put my music on my ipod, and all my movies, including fraps files, off my desktop, on my external hard drive....

i plug in the external hard drive into my laptop. the movies (ratatouille, matrix, you get it.) worked fine. playable, etc. Fraps files, however, were really strange.

    1. i could only play the files with VLC
    2. biggest problem: anytime i drag one of the fraps files into vegas, it says
Stream attributes could not be determined

and i cant edit that file or anythin with vegas, and its really lame AQ

    please, help me!

The laptop is probably missing various video codecs which were on your desktop.

There is a program which determines what codec was used to encode a video, but I can't remember what it's called - trying to find it on my PC. Maybe someone else can remember it.

The program I was referring to before is called Gspot. It should be able to determine if the right codecs are registered with windows to be able to read and/or the files
