Default Ventrilo not connecting to server

I've got my own Vent server running but bit stumped now

    > Works fine on Internal IP (connects instantly)
    > Ports forwarded in router (TCP + UDP to 3784 and TCP 6100)
    - Verified ports opened with portforward tool and webpage
    - Additionally checked Vent with the status page. Put in my servername and port it shows up

I enter the hostname and additionally it's IP, nothing happens it just hangs there

I've got the Ventrilo srv running as process, tried using the manual option too but that don't work either

    Any ideas?

EDIT - Additionally I can't telnet to the server, so something is stopping it

Can you expand on that bit, not sure what you mean by system maintenance - interpreter mode

Do I have to telnet my WAN ip and choose a menu in vent?
