im thinking about:
amd phenom 2300
not sure about motherboard
2x 2gb dual ddr2 kingston
geforce 8800gts 512mb
750gb wd 16mb cash hdd

a good dual core, only the latest games such as crysis use the quad core technology effectively.

just buy a good dual core now and get a quad core in a year or so.

dual core and quad core both use the 775 socket yeah.

although some quad cores use 771.

EDIT : ok, i was wrong :P it was a dual core quad extreme that also uses the 775 socket. quad cores only use the 771.

but still, you can upgrade your motherboard with your processor.

been using dual core and xp for about a year and a half now
and my system plays cyrsis demo flawlessly

i probably wont upgrade for another year or so

and 2gigs of ddr2 is a must now

XP FTW! Who needs crappy Vista anyway? Even big companies are paying to DOWNGRADE their operating system from Vista to XP
