For some reason, when I reinstalled windows xp with a chinese copy of XP, I can see chinese characters ingame. Maybe use this as a last desperate attempt to read chinese ingame :P

P.S. I don't know if it will help, but try change chinese to default language for non-unicode programs, under that Regional/Language panel, and go to Advanced.[/b]
That's how mine works also, I'm pretty sure those guys in that girakon chinese clan yuber would have the same thing. A copy of Chinese xp automatically has non Unicode programmes set to Chinese.
