The answer is 288 lol.. u cant change the structure by adding stuff that doesnt make sense -.- Why would you multiply 12 with 2 before dividing 48 with 2? U just made it into a whole new calculation.
Edit: i see ur point but i dont know why would you do it that way lol.. its pretty simple solution imo. Start calculating from left to right in the rightful order which now would be:
48/2 ----> 9+3 = 24(12) Another rule here.. 24*12 = 24(12)
24*12 = 288

If you don't understand how math works don't bother posting...math isn't something you just read..you have to interpret it. You have to understand that the 2 in 2(9+3) is part of the parenthesis, therefore equals to 12.
I'll show you skeptics how this is resolved using simple algebra and hopefully you'll all finally understand:

48÷[2(9+3)]=48÷(2x12)=48÷24=2
For all those who still argue.
Its simple math you need to put it into correct order of math.
first u gotta do [2(9+3)] Note: Its order which is not written you just have to know that u need to multiply (9+2) with 2
then [2x12]
and then 48÷24=2
Feel free to argue with me
Edit 1: Using computer calculater you'll get 288 cuz its fail
Edit 2: Using normal calculator you'll get 2.
Point proved

Close this topic please
Use your calculator and you will see the right answere.
I proved my theory and owned all those who tought it would be 288.
Cya
to those saying 288, guess thy never heard of BADMAS
apparently you don't know what it is.
Why are you adding a paranthesis? there is no paranthesis around 2(9+3)
Edit 1: btw herp derp type this in google and get 288. point proved.
Edit 2: check it out http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i...B72%289%2B3%29 288
If you don't understand how math works don't bother posting.
You have to understand that the 2 outside the paranthesis is OUTSIDE the paranthesis.
the equation translates to:
48 * (9+3)
---
2
In other words 48/2*(9+3) = 48/2*(12) we have now finished with the parenthesis, we don't need to multiply the 12 by 2 because it is OUTSIDE it.
we now move onto multiplication and division from left to right. (start to end)
first one we see is 48/2 so we divide that 48/2 =24
24*12 = 288.

if type fully this is 48÷2*(9+3)
ty vm point proven and u failed
tyvm point proven you don't know what PEDMAS / BEDMAS is and you failed.
im off 2 eat + gym chao.
edit: b4 i leave ima just leave this here:
"An expression like 1/2x is interpreted as 1/(2x) by TI-82, but as (1/2)x by TI-83. While the first interpretation may be expected by some users, only the latter is in agreement with the standard rules stated above."

How is this even arguable? You should work with what you're given. Musht is right
As someone said already it doesn't say 48 / ( 2(9+3) ) but 48 / 2 (9+3) meaning it's:
(48 / 2 )( 9+3) or (48(9+3)) / 2 depending on how you want to look at it
why u guys dont understand german
well i will try tell it in english
48 / 2 (9+3)
48 / 2 9+3 = 24 * 12 because if u do 9+3 its 12 and 48 / 2 its 24 = 24 * 12 = 288
point calculation befor line calculating
ohhh sry mushtman said it ^^
w0w
take up a thing called calculator (not pc one or any from interwebs [internet])
And type it in and calculate it says 2
Because
48÷2(9+3)=2
You ask me how?
Now I'm going to make it full
1. 9+3=12
2. 2*12=24
3. 48÷24=2
And how can i do 2nd one?
because this 48÷2(9+3)
means between 2& ( there is * which means you have to multiply first & then divide.
hers another example from other forums.
Source : Physicsforum.288? Following PEMDAS, I get 2:
48÷2*(9+3) = 48÷2*(12) = 48÷24 = 2
The reason why some people are getting 288 is that they're forgetting that there's an invisible multiply sign in the expression.
Honestly though, if I ever saw this I would apply a facepalm. It's not good notation and like you're seeing, it's ambiguous without proper use of parentheses and will confuse people. It's better notation to say LaTeX Code: \\frac{48}{2(9+3)}
