the problem here is that people almost never use mathemathics in linear form. when it comes to divison you must take parenthesis around the numbers you want to divide with. so the answer would be 2 if there were one more parenthesis like this: 48/(2(3+9)) now it's 48/12 but if you write something like this: 48/2(3+9) then you divide with 2!!! and then multiply with 12... Once again, this is linear form of math it's used to allow people to write math things into the computer using one line. For example you derivate like this: d/dx(2x+3)=2 and you use radicals like this: radical(3^2+4^2)=5
just try to use the Google's Wolframalpha it works exactly the same way.

After reading this topic i see few guys have no fuking idea what theyre talking about and telling me i cant do maths?
simply and shortly its all about priorities and this thing was taught to u on fuking 6th grade or smth.
1st you must get rid of the (9+3) beacuse everything placed incide ( and ) gets priority over / , + , - and *
2nd / and * have same priority so u start calculating from fuking right to left.
which brings us this
48/2*(9+3)
= 48/2*12
now we just use the priorities to solve the problem. From left.. to right.
= 24*12
= 288
Go to school idiots lol.. fuking 6th grader got more skills in maths than u.
PS. next guy claiming its actually fuking 48/(2(9+3) is a fuking dumbass:
48/2(9+3)

48/(2(9+3)
these 2 things have complely fuking different priorities. You cannot add a ( there if it wasnt given to u in the first place beacuse thats why u all ''=2'' idiots fuk up.

PS: No matter what yall "Don't Know" about math, the (2) is part of the parentheses. Its the distributive property, the equation is telling you 48 Divided by the product of 2 times 9+3. Thats how its worded, if you don't understand that well then your hopeless.
I didn't realize such simple math could be so complex to some.
