You needed the other person in your party near you and you could have looted it to him. The system wont loot items to dead bodies.

you should have waited for a rezz, a clanny of mine got a pp from atilla took like an hour to find a rezzer but he got rezzed and looted everything in box, same with a lobo hammer

I think it is because they fixed the far loot bug, so if you're not within 5 feet of the box, you will not be able to pick up the drop.
