Nasi goreng means fried rice, therefor Nasi = rice in the Malay (singapore's language, or one of them not sure right now)

Singaporeans and chinese ARE eating rice.
they do understand that, not every country and language on the world uses the word "RICE"
they do understand rice as "rice" yet they cant pronounce the "r" because it has another pronunciation in their language, therefor yes it might happen that they do say "lice"
just like the frenchies cant pronounce the german "h" .
