It used to be a symbol for wealth and power, since women who got their feet bound, couldn't/didn't work. So only rich people could 'afford' it to get their feet bound, poor women had to work on the fields, and it'd be hard for them to work with those feet.

And aligator, it wasn't the feet that attracted men, cuz mostly the feet were never shown, they always had 'lotus' shoes on; but some men thought the way women walked with bound feet was... sexy I guess...
