my cousin once bought a BRAND NEW desktop (not a refurbrished one). Before ANYTHING was installed and before ANYTHING even happened, we plugged in the internet cable and modem and the internet connected, and then literally 2 seconds later, there were 50 porn advertisements, and shit lol.

I've spent months without antivirus and/or anti spywares, and nothing ever infected my PCs because I knew what to browse and what not to browse, and same with what to download. Easy as that, after all.. It's always the human stupidity. I've never had a single virus on my PC. I've been connected to the internet for over 10 years now, at least 8 or 9 of those 10 years I've not been using any anti virus and/or firewall applications. Get a decent router and some common sense and you'll be fine.
