Actually its not stolen. They asked for IceFrog permission to make it very similiar to dota, and in some aspects identical, and he said yes. He was actually happy that the game was taken to a self 3D engine.

i thought it was dead, but reading the Knight Online Private Server -> KO4life Team Project topic kind of made me think it's somewhat of the way it was, at least before the switch.
