It's saying in 2012/3 they will be able to judge if this asteroid will hit the earth in the next 20-30 years, which if it is they have ways to prevent it. Nothing to do with that bullshit end of the world crap. An asteroid the size of two football fields isn't enough to end the world anyway.

p.s Deep impact smashed into Tempel to record pictures of the inside of it, not to change the course, there is no evidence that the comet changed direction when deep impact collided with it.
