Overclocking is only needed if you need the extra cpu power, if its not needed then you won't need to overclock. I bought my i7 so I can overclock it in the future when programs and games are more demanding on the cpu. The CPU clock speed is not the only factor when it comes to cpu speed, and the i7 is the fastest public CPU in the world. And I chose to get the i7 for future computer upgrading to be possible so I won't have to buy a new PC in 5+ years, i'l just have to upgrade the Video Card.

And you payed a complete ripoff amount (no matter what its specs are) for your Laptop Willy, I don't know of anyone who payed even close to that for a Laptop.

My New Build which im currently waiting on the items being delivered over the next few days.
Asus Rampage 2 Extreme mobo
i7 920
Asus Triton 88 Quiet CPU Cooler
BFG Nvidia GTX 285
Corsair 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz XMS3 Dominator Memory CL8(8-8-8--24) x2
Antec 1200 Case
and 2 Raptors.

Costing me Around 1400£ GBP possibly a little higher. i know ive spent 1300 already for sure.
Tbh with a i7 its more a future proof project more than anything, as with its overclocking ability i may have upgrade some other components down the line.

I only plan to OC to 3.2(same as a i7 965) on Air, in future if i go for Watercooling when i can afford it. then i will oc the i7 more, as its capable of going much higher.

Will post pics when i get all the parts in and build it ^^

For the mean time im stuck will my Dell XPS, i have.

Core2quad @ 2.33
8 gig DDR
ATI Radeon 4850
3 Different Harddrives - 160 and 2x 500gb

My Western Digital 640GB Hard drive just arrived at my house! I'm just missing the Mobo/CPU/OS/Optical Drive/ThermalCompound to make my PC.

Its not because its XP, but its because your using the 32-bit version of XP.

The 64-bit version of WinXP is horrible with drivers so its best to have 32-bit XP, when using vista then it may be best to have the 64-bit version though there are a couple problems with it (XP 64-bit has loads of problems).

Nobody else posted anything regarding a laptop in the thread, so I assumed you were talked to me about my laptop because I was talking to you about it awhile ago. And btw it's a good laptop :P

You got ripped off on that price, the HDD's nice, so are the graphic cards but other than that I don't see where those specs can get anywhere near to that price range, though... if you've bought it 3-4 years ago it might explain it.

Anywho, the 3.25GB is a limitation due to 32-bit systems, also known as x86. I agree with Metalkon, the 64bit XP is buggy as hell, in fact it takes quite some time adjusting it to your likes and what not. I'd suggest going with Windows 7 Beta - 64 bit straight away, the current build 7.000 and above are perfectly stable and have only minimal bugs that still need to be fixed, however those are most likely out of your working area anyway. Vista would be the "safer" way to go, if you're scared of having problems with Win 7. Though, vista is a pain in the ass and slow, doesn't matter what computer specs you've got, it's just slow as fuck and very instabil. Been using Win 7 for months now and it's been great, in fact, I've even got it on all 3 of my systems now, its as fast and stable as XP, and it got all what vista has and more.

Nah not talking about you. :P

And yeah Scrotti, unless he bought that computer some time in the past than he could have had that setup made for less than half of the price.

Bought at the end of 2001 for about $1200 (corporate discount ftw) - it's served me well since then, but probably due for an upgrade.
