Well ATM I'm on my sister's shitty ass computer but I guess it still runs.
My problem is that I can hear all sounds (Youtube videos, music, vent login/logout/change channel etc.) But I can't hear people talking in vent. If anyone can help me that would be great
And BTW my vent isn't muted so don't say anything about it.
Go to Setup and make sure Output Device is the one your are using(speaker,headset ect). If that doesn't fix the problem I dunno
Close out of your youtube video for 1 thing. Then go into setup and under one of the tabs (cant log on vent right now to give u specifics). Then you will see a check box for the logging ins/outs and change channels and you can unclick it

Woops. Srry i thought that you didn't want to hear those sounds that you listed and it made you not hear others talk :P Make sure that your input device is the one you are using. Or make sure that your actual input volume is all the way up.How does that help me hear other people talk...?[/b]

did you check setup in ventrilo to what your output/input device is? It needs to be set to your sound card. Multiple people have already stated this but you havent said whether you checked.
There are 2 choices when [output/input use direct sound is checked] and I've tried both of the options and neither of them work.

i've had same problem, all i had to do was to restart computer with headset pluged in.. but guess u already tried this :P
