    Default X : 0 = infinity ?

my math teacher taught me smth really intresting today...
    x = any positive number that is not 0 or 1 .
we all now that when u devide a number by 0 its nothing...not even a zero .
    but check this out .
    lets say x is 100 .
and we are trying to get as much as close as we can get to 0 .
    100 : 100 = 1
    100 : 50 = 2
    100:1 = 100
    100 : 1/2 = 200
    100 : 1/100 = 10,000...
    100 : 1/1000000 = 100,000,000 ...
    100 : 1/1000000000 = 100,000,000,000....
    u see ?
when we are trying to get closer to 0 the number get bigger and bigger .
    so...
    x : 0 = infinity ?
    ....

    sounds right to me

and on the subject of maths: 0.9999... = 1

    hmm, what?

    what about 100: 1000 = 0,1

    U serious....???

    U got2be elementray school a.k.a. n00b ^_^

-It is easy, if u have MS, and u divide it with your friend theoreticaly evryone gets half of sword.

-If U divide it with yourself (1 person), you get 1 whole MS.

-And if u dont divide it (divide it with 0)..... what u get is more question of philosophy coz u tehnicaly didnt divide it, so you didnt do operation of divison and therefor u cant expect to get result.

P.S. Division with nubers less then 0 is actualy multplying as multiplying with nubers less then 1 is division.

And if I recal corectly in math is actulay posible to divide with 0 but it is a lot longer story and it is based on "seeing" the actual result (might not have explained this very reasonable but it is best I could do :P )

Actually wouldnt the correct mathematical term be that X/0 tends to infinity?

As opposed to X/0 = infinity, as it doesnt

you cant divide a number by 0. its undefined in the maths and if you divide with 0 by using a calculator or computer that will show an error message meaning that its undefined.
if you write a program and sometime it happens that it wants to divide by zero it will terminate and return with the error message as "divide by zero error".
and in maths you should avoid division by zero everytime.
if you have an expression like: (2+x)/x then you must specify that x=/=0 to be correct.

in analisys there sometimes you have to divide by x (lets say y/x) and x is part of a set which is focusing to 0 (getting closer and closer). then this set is focusing to infinity as it is defined. (except y=infinity or y=0 in this cases other analisys needed)
oh and if y is negative then the set is focusing to negative infinity.

which is basically what I said, except you used the word focusing, whereas I used the correct term of tending :P
