As most of the older forum members know, I am fascinated with the progression of the virtual economy. The incredible amounts of money that are being generated along with the new laws, rules, regulations, etc, that occur daily in this new realm of commerce, is amazing.
Remember when eBay banned virtual sales DESPITE it being over 300 mil a year in pure profit? Well, now we have the Chinese Gov banning WOW in China. I've argued with nit wits who have told me WOW is essentially cheat free, despite my personal knowledge of a guy who makes 50k a year running bots in the game and selling characters (for the last 5 years). Any way, the Chinese Gov has now banned WOW and there is lots of potential thoughts to provoke on this topic.
Now many will say they will use proxies, but trust me, 4 mil people aren't going to use proxies.
Where will the players go?
Most of the players farm for RL money. You are talking about a very poor country that is incredibly hard to make a living in and making coins for gold companies is better then sustenance farm or work in a factory painting statues for $7 a day (I have personally seen this first hand).
What do you guys think?
