tradeing characters

im not sure on how this works. im trying to transfer my friends mage onto my acc because the owner of the acc he was playing on quit. i understand you cant trade characters from frozen accounts to non frozen acounts but you also have to be the owner of both accounts...how do you trade characters if you do not own both accounts? is it possible or am i just missing something. i looked around here and didnt find anything if someone would explain this to me that would be great.
