good idea but i i think to make the borders of noncolored and colored is too visible i would prefer to slowly change it from 1 to the other one
and i think repair the shield (put the part of valkiria away)

yea i had no idea bout making the border , and , bout that valkryie piece , how can i take it away ? clone stamp ?

about border: black soft brush on clipping mask of gradient map
about valkirie: clone stamp is possibility but i would just delete the parts of it, get color there by smudging paste another part of shield on it, lower opacitity and blur it lil bit

i think A 2pixel(inside) Orange borded(Like you got now) and add another 1pixel(inside) Black border Would give a nice effect on it
