Two excellent books.
Flyboys has nothing to do with the fairly recent movie Flyboys.
The Flags of our Fathers movie however, is based on the book.

Both books are different aspects (air and land) of looking at the battle of Iwo Jima, which few people knew about, but was a MASSIVE slaughter for both sides.
The thing that interested me most was that the Americans bombed Iwo Jima for days, if not weeks, by plane and boat before they stepped foot on land.
The Japanese were so dug underground the bombing didn't even effect them.
The Americans thought all the Japanese were dead, until they started shooting them from out of pillboxes and underground holes.

I don't know, I found them really interesting.
Anyone else read?
