Lower level readers seem to like Darren Shan books.

R.A Salvatore - He Gave birth 2 the best dark elf ever Drizzt Do'Urden, and all the books were 1 of the first i have ever read lol
Jonathan Stroud - The Bartimaeus Trilogy good read 2 be honest
David Eddings - The Belgariad and The Malloreon, the 2 have a compilation of 5 books in each its a long series but its good
Raymond E. Fiest - has some good books i liked
J.K Rowling - wat can i say its Harry Potter lol
Dan Brown - the only 2 books i have read from him were The Davinci Code and Angels & Demons and they both gave u somthing 2 think about after u finished them

I agree that Angels and Demons > DVC
My Childhood favorite was actually "The Neverending Story", it took Michael Ende 10 years to complete this masterpiece.
