No, he was never the strongest character in Naruto, but he may very well be the strongest character alive (as of the current manga chapter)

IMO Naruto - should be the best ( bcoz as the name of the Anime says he is the main hero there )

but

Kakashi - he is great too, he has got sharingan, and he can copy jutsu

Pain - he can control over 6 bodies, dont even be close to them, he has got Rinnengan

Madara doesn't have the rinnegan, he got the sharingan? And pain is Jiraya's first disciple, Nagato, who is the only person with the rinnegan. Or am I missing something here?

Side note

The most powerful-est Naruto character, is just that - Naruto. It doesn't matter what godly power's anyone has against him, he will alway's over come just like Itchigo from bleach and every other god forsaken manga that follows this same formula that the good guy must alway's win z.z;

And either a] He will kill Sasuke [Highly unlikely since.... Well, it's just...unlikely] or b] Convince Sasuke to go back to the light side because while they might not have ponys or cookie's, they do have gay bar's. And bam Sasuke will auto join them again, the end [most likely]
