If you read the WHOLE POST it says

I said statistically speaking your chances of getting a shard are higher from a boss than they are from an abyss gem,

because an abyss gem can give you anything (except uniques),
and a boss mainly drops only high class items,
which is a much smaller subset of items.

If you just take one line out and dont read the whole post, it says what you said.
