As the topic says, what's the point of jailbreaking an ipod...like what things can I add to it?
And what's the risk of screwing it up if I let my friend Jailbreak my ipod?

I think you can switch it back to factory settings if you screw up.
Ask Shurt.
Ya cuz im getting a new ipod touch tomorow, the really expensive one and if i screwed it up Id have to kill myself. Cuz my friend wants to jailbreak it and he did it with his, but I read all these posts and there all like...uhh ye my ipod is broken...but ill probly try it anyways :P
Thx ill ask that smart guy
if you fail jailbreaking it doesnt it brick the system and you have to get a new one?
Theres a few things ive heard.if you fail jailbreaking it doesnt it brick the system and you have to get a new one?[/b]
1) It breaks it, trying to reset it to original fails , and trying to jailbreak it deletes ur warranty so yes buy a new 1
2) and ummm you can reset it to original until jailbreaking works
WHich is why im scared to let my friend do it to my 500$ ipod touch........
uh, just dont, lol. i know personally i wouldnt trust my friends to tamper with my shit.
ya but he jailbroke his and he said its hella cool...i wanna find sum1 that has done it :Suh, just dont, lol. i know personally i wouldnt trust my friends to tamper with my shit.[/b]
benefits? and do they outweigh the cost and potential consequences?
umm it adds a lot of stuff to the ipod, not sure what ill have to look @ his, and i just read up that it will never brick, so u can just keep resetting it if u mess up, so i dun think theres a big consequence..
On an iPod Touch, there are absolutely no risks. Nothing can go wrong. The absolute worst thing that can happen is that you have to restore your iPod, losing all the information on it. The iPod Touch can't be "bricked".
As for the benefits, jailbreaking allows you have an application called Installer.app on your iPod. Installer.app grants you access to HUNDREDS of repositories full of applications for the iPod Touch.
If you have any other questions, let me know.
if u fuck up on jailbreaking u can always reset the ipod
My friend "hacks" his iphone all the time. I guess this is different because it is an iphone, but he "hacks" his iphone all the time to get different applications (mostly little flash games. ie : super mario bros, sonic, rubix cube, etc) But the risks on the iphone are a lot worse because it has fucked up a lot of times to a point where he had to go to the apple store and get a new one.
i wish i could put a nextel sim into a iphone shit would be bad ass
