if i were you, i would go to electronic or computer stores and compare the models that are available there. think of the price range you want it to be in and start looking at specs, prepare yourself the minimum specs you want it to have... for example if i would buy a new laptop (i bought mine this way 1,5 years ago), i'd set some minimum standards: like 4gb of ram, 15,4" screen IS A MUST (bigger is pointless and smaller is too small), 200+ gb of hdd, dual core or core2duo with single core speed 1,8+, preferrably 2,0+, a graphix card, not one of those integrated bullshit ones, but something like geforce go 8600gt or so.... so my point is, learn about the specs, compare them and find the one you like best. oh and if i were you, id be choosing from HP, Dell or Asus.

wouldn't buy a sony, they've got much better screens then most laptops, but they always cost €3-400 more.

i've had a toshiba sattelite for 2 years now and it works like a charm.
