going back up a few posts, the "indie" classification put on music is based on the record company they signed with (being an independent label instead of a major one). however, with the popularization of this type of music, that original concept is somewhat blurred; the "indie" category is still based on record label, even though some of the bands might share certain aspects with other acts.
