You should base your argument on the idea that the state has no right to censor what a consenting adult does for entertainment when it does not infringe on anybody else. Violent video games already have adult ratings, so the onus is on parents to control what their kids do. That debate is about declining parenting standards, not video games. If however someone believes video games should be censored for adults, then they are advocating a form of nanny state that is unhealthy and statistically unsuccessful as with similar bans on prostitution and soft drugs.

I believe that the link between video games and violence is tenuous at best; such a large percentage of youths play games anyway so to blame the games for the violence is as misleading as to blame football. Most of the famous school shootings were performed by kids with pre-existing mental problems, any kind of video gaming was superfluous. A ban on violent games would have done nothing to stop a kid hellbent on murder as a vengeance for bullying. Until the detractors can prove that violent games will make adults commit violent crimes that they otherwise would not (which they cannot), they have no case whatsoever.

That would be the jist of my argument. Make it from first principles instead of just regurgitating studies.
